The coevolution between Ophrys and Hymenoptera led to strict specificity between each orchid and its selected pollinators.
The insects are not attracted by the presence of nectar, completely absent in this genus, but with a sexual reward: the flower of the orchid infact, mimic perfectly the shape and smell of the female of the pollinator.
Remember, all wild orchids are PROTECTED!
Admire without harming them!!
